Les Grognards are exclusive to war game vault (not available from walkerloo.com)

Napoleon affectionately called them 'les Grognards' (which means the grumblers or growlers) because they were the only Regiment who dared to grumble in front of him.  Les Grognards had never been defeated in battle and had complete confidence in their ability as the finest and bravest soldiers in the world.  All the Guards had big moustaches and wore gold earrings. At the battle of Waterloo the Guard grenadiers held their formation until the last and refused to surrender!

Walkerloo 1:35 scale DIY miniatures.  Expressive illustrations for war gaming, toy playing and nice displays...

The Foot Artillery of Napoleon's Imperial Guard were the cream of the French Artillery. Their 12lb cannons were the biggest guns with the longest range on the battlefield of Waterloo.  Napoleon called these cannons his 'beautiful daughters' and some say he loved them too much as they were not included in the 'Grand Battery'.

The figures have black surrounds and there is a detailed 'earth' sheet for figure bases.  The cannon axel is fine with a match stick but a 50mm long, 4mm diameter bolt is better.  The pdf sheets include the mirror reflections and fold lines to enable easy...

The Big Brothers. French 12th Cuirassiers, 1815.
Regular price: $2.95
Bundle price:
 $1.49
Format:
 Watermarked PDF

The French Infantry nicknamed the Cuirassiers the 'Gros Freres' (Big Brothers) because they could always be relied upon to come to their aid. At Waterloo the 12th did just that with a disciplined well timed counter-attack against the British Heavy cavalry after it had charged through French Infantry and over enthusiastically up to the cannon of the 'Grand Battery'. The 12th Cuirassiers took back the cannons and inflicted heavy casualties on the blown (out of formation and tired) British Cavalry. The British Household Cavalry were so impressed by the Cuirassier armour that after the battle they began to wear their own armour and can still be seen wearing it on parade today!

The Black Watch, 1815.
Regular price: $4.95
Bundle price:
 $2.50
Format:
 Watermarked PDF

Two days before Waterloo, the Blackwatch fought in a battle called 'Quatre Bras'. They were caught by surprise in fields of shoulder high crops by French Lancers but managed to form a defensive square. Although they lost many men, including their commanding officer, the attack was repelled. By holding their ground all day against cavalry charges and cannon shot, they helped stop French Marshal Ney from capturing the crossroads. At Waterloo they were positioned on the main ridge, firing and advancing on the attacking French columns.

The Chainy 10th. British Hussars, 1815.
Regular price: $2.95
Bundle price:
 $1.49
Format:
 Watermarked PDF

The 10th Hussars led the final British cavalry charge at Waterloo chasing Napoleon's Old Guard as it fell back. Fearing that the French army may regroup and counter-attack, their order was to smash all before them. Storming down the slopes, they cut and slashed their way through the disordered mass of infantry and cavalry. They eventually fell on a last square of Imperial Guard, defiantly holding their formation and trying to rally the panicking forces around them. The Old Guard fired several terrible vollies, but the day had already been won, and with the support of infantry and artillery, the last stand of Napoleon's Guard was made to surrender. The 10th Hussars rode on to Paris with Wellington after the battle.

Exclusive to war game vault (not available from walkerloo.com)

The regiment was formed during the English civil war and fought on the side of Parliament against the king. When the new king came back to power they became one of his select 'guard' regiments. The British army 'Guard' regimental duties still include protecting the king or queen. Although they were formed before the 1st regiment of guards, the foot guards were made the second regiment of guards.  They have never accepted this name, prefering to be called the 'Coldstream guards' and their motto is 'Second to none!'

The Royals. British 1st Royal Dragoons, 1815.
Regular price: $2.95
Bundle price:
 $1.50
Format:
 Watermarked PDF

The Royals captured the French 105th's eagle at Waterloo, but in their enthusiasm, the heavy Cavalry continued on to the 'Grand Battery' smashing men and horses. The French Infantry counter-attacked, and the cavalry realised they must return with tired horses. However, French Lancers and Cuirassiers had now charged in from the side and stood between the blown Cavalry and their own lines. Many including the Brigade commander didn't return.

The figures have black surrounds and there is a detailed 'earth' sheet for figure bases.  The pdf sheets include the mirror reflections and fold lines to enable easy construction.

This is a wonderful collection of Napoleonic figurines, produced to a consistently excellent standard, and offered at an extremely reasonable price. The uniforms are beautifully drawn, the figures themselves are dashing, and the expressions on their fa [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
