Alone Against Nyarlathotep
by Dave
Publisher: Chaosium
Date Added: 04/11/2024 10:45:34
pixel_trans.gif Alone Against Nyarlathotep Solo games have been a part of TTRPG culture since the very earliest iterations of FF....and in recent years we have seen a return to popularity for classics, and contemporary releases both. AAN is just such a product. At 340 pages this is a monumental work, especially considering that one person produced the text, scenario, and illustrations using extremely limited technology. Not only that, he maintained his passion for the product over hundreds of hours from the initial concept to playtesting and final refinements......it certainly shows with the end result being an impressive lengthy adventure, of singular quality. Pitting a party of pre-generated characters (or of course, you could generate your own) against the titular man in the waxen mask and enshrouding robes you navigate through God's Own Country (Yorkshire) and encounter various locales, locals, NPCs, and unfathomable awfulness before the final denouement. I'm not going to reveal much of the plot (other than to say it's a f...

pixel_trans.gif BattleTech: Rhonda's Irregulars The scenarios in this book are great! The quality of that scan is bad because the resolution of the images ist really low, so its hard to read the text. Even a scan app on smartphones can do better scans than this one! I bought some other scenarios ("The Black Thorns", "McCarron's Armored Cavalry" and "The Fourth Succession War Scenarios Volume One") and the quality of the scans is way better. Maybe its time for an update and a rescan?

Grimdark Future World Book
by Matthew
Publisher: onepagerules
Date Added: 04/11/2024 10:00:07
pixel_trans.gif Grimdark Future World Book Great read for an indie darling. This wonderful world primer gives the broad overviews of OnePageRule's setting for their games Grimdark Future, Grimdark Future: Firefight and Grimdark Future: Warfleets games. This book covers the history and societies of the Sirius Sector and Humanity's recent history leading up to finding themselves in the Sirius Sector. This book would serve well as the basis for your own wargaming fun and campaigns, and making sure your armies fit within the universe. The factions described in the book are not monolithic stereotypes and I honestly found it refreshing seeing that there were no purely good or purely evil factions. Genetically engineered super soldiers feel just as personable and justified in some of their actions as the purely biological Alien Hives and the newly sentient Robot Legions. This book would also be a great way to start an RPG campaign set within the world of Grimdark Future, as there are details about the more daily life of people wit...

Bodily Regalia: Flesh and Bow
by Hannah

Date Added: 04/11/2024 04:22:44
pixel_trans.gif Bodily Regalia: Flesh and Bow Changeling the Lost 2nd edition is a game of personal horror and the core game sets a foundation of mental, emotional, and physical Clarity and the ways that it can be shattered. Bodily Regalia takes this one step further and brings a Vicissitude meets Magnus Archives body horror that leans into the uniqueness of Changelings, you're already broken, but sometimes not even your Mask can hide the damage. Paired with succinct and atmospheric descriptions, the author knows the genre and base game well. I'd be interested to see if akin to the core books, a short narrative entry was added sometime....

Grimdark Future World Book
by Gergely
Publisher: onepagerules
Date Added: 04/11/2024 02:21:14
pixel_trans.gif Grimdark Future World Book TL;DR: A complete hit 'n' miss. Did you folks forget that your game is titled GRIMDARK Future? Or did you regret it? I was afraid of this happening. I was already sold on the game without any lore, so a world book can hardly do anything more for me -- but a badly written world book could throw me off of the game. And now I'm contemplating whether the latter has happened after reading the book or not. Let's get one thing straight right away: I did not expect a carbon copy of That Other Product. I didn't even expect anything of the sorts. But I expected GRIM and DARK and this world is neither. In fact, it's kind of a hopeful, generic, flavourless, scentless, space opera sci-fi. Pros. Dwarves. Dwarves are the only, proper grimdark element in here. The origins of humanity are kind of OK, too, but that's the best I can give them. Kind of OK. Big fan of the portrayal of Battle Bros in general. Cons. Authors don't seem to understand that, while grimdark generally doesn't have to revolve a...

Essential NPCs
by Florian
Publisher: Musing Design
Date Added: 04/11/2024 00:38:38
pixel_trans.gif Essential NPCs Absolutely thrilled with my purchase here—hands down, one of the most insightful and impactful books for game masters and monster manuals I've acquired. It's exactly what I've been searching for a long time. The monsters are brilliantly designed, offering a refreshing departure from the usual "attack twice" creatures. The NPCs and their abilities, as well as their artwork, truly capture the imagination, leaving you wondering why the original monster manual seems so dull in comparison. It's well-structured and easy to find something fitting for an NPC you've just made up. Some NPCs ingeniously utilize niche (or perhaps not so niche) feats, like parts of the Shield Master Feat tailored for the knight, adding depth and variety that's simply inspiring....

Fading Suns 4 - Imperial Dossier - Urth Orthodox

pixel_trans.gif Fading Suns 4 - Imperial Dossier - Urth Orthodox The Urth Orthodoxy book is certainly, as usual in this short booklets, very useful and high quality material. In this case we have a clear and complete depiction of the church as an institution, with its history, power players and structures and so on. But also, and for me more important, it has a very interesting depiction of the religion itself, from it's cosmology to more lore on the saints and the teachings and practices that go on during any time they have mass in the Fading Suns universe. Add a little few extra mechanical things like new paths, a few new theurgy powers and so, and you have a pretty complete book that certainly gives it's content a good focus and, even though it's short, makes it worthwhile....

Heroes & Hardships Core Rulebook
by Kirlian
Publisher: Earl of Fife Games
Date Added: 04/10/2024 17:21:22
pixel_trans.gif Heroes & Hardships Core Rulebook I bought the book with high expectations, as the system uses mechanics that I really like, such as a dice pool, combat by ticks instead of turns, wounds instead of life points. In addition, of course, it is a generic system (although, we will talk about that below). I didn't regret the purchase at all, as the system not only met but exceeded all expectations. The book has a clean layout and easy-to-read and understandable text. As negative points, I would just say that although the book is sold as a generic system, it is very focused on medieval fantasy (various skills, spells, etc.). And I think he lost a lot of space in what could have been rules more focused on sci fi or other genres, covering several pages with a bestiary, which could have been left for a separate book. Despite the negative points, I still give the book 5 stars, due to the support given by the author on his discord, trying to meet the needs of his readers whenever possible....

Imperium Chronicles - Fleets at War: Fighter Wing

Date Added: 04/10/2024 15:58:44
pixel_trans.gif Imperium Chronicles - Fleets at War: Fighter Wing If you are a TLDR person the take home is I struggle to describe just how impressed I am with this game. The space games I like in case it helps you judge my review are Full thrust, Silent death and Colonial battlefleet. I think this game has excellent elements from all of these. Scope of the game Small fighters with a limited number of freighters, corvettes and destroyers though i think you could possibly play it as a destroyer/corvette heavy or only game if that's your thing. Ships Lots of ship designs are provided. Ships are defined by stats for things such as agility, thrust and superstructure on a ten point scale including categories such as poor. average, above average, good etc. These define how much damage the ship can take and which manoeuvres it can do. They also have weapons that may be turreted or in fixed arcs. Each ship is represented by very nice full colour printable counters and a ship data sheet with hull boxes and ammo to be ticked of when used. Each...

Cavern Crawl #036 - Boarding Party (5e)
by Lars K.
Publisher: Grim Press
Date Added: 04/10/2024 15:49:39
pixel_trans.gif Cavern Crawl #036 - Boarding Party (5e) "Boarding Party" was an fun side-quest for my group that happened a few months after running another Cavern Crawl "Treacherous Tides" with them. Now at level 11 after the party faced off against everything from jungle beasts to a horde of undead in a crypt, and survived a near TPK where pirate ghosts nearly did them in, I needed a quick pre-written encounter while I figured out next steps for the campaign. This time, the party was on their way back to their coastal headquarters when pirates attacked (again lol)! The leader was a naval dreadlord - a tiefling necromancer with a crew of monster pirates. The party's mission: turn back the invaders and beat the dreadlord. The battles were intense and fun. First, the group fought five tough pirates on deck. Then we had a crazy fight with an oni and three sea hags trying to steal our ship! They had to sneak across to the pirate ship, surprising some mages fixing the ship with magic. Then, they took on six pirate captains before facing the...
